Regulatory Reporting
Engine for a Global Bank, Singapore
A leading global bank’s Mumbai operation needed
to submit statutory reports to Reserve Bank of India. Reports
have varying frequencies - weekly, fortnightly and monthly.
We developed a reporting engine that extracts data from transaction
systems. This engine addresses regulatory reporting requirements
of Reserve Bank of India, across banking operations securities
trading and Primary Dealer activities.
System was developed in PowerBuilder
ver 5.0 and Sybase ver 11.0.2 in conformance with bank’s
technical architecture. Executables run on individual user
workstations while reporting engine database is hosted
running on a Sybase server located in Singapore. Connectivity
to other systems such as Excel is provided through ODBC
connectivity.
J2EE Evaluation
for Emirates Airlines, Dubai
Emirates Airlines was porting their existing cargo system from
Oracle Developer platform to object oriented architecture,
using Java on J2EE platform. There were doubts about applicability
of architecture, its ability to perform and benefits of object
orientation. Surya's mandate was to validate this technical
architecture.
Emirates also wanted to evaluate
availability and load performance of J2EE architecture
on combinations of hardware, software
and middleware. They also wanted a comparative study of Application
Servers and Integrated Development Environments (IDE) for
J2EE development. Our consultant validated the architecture,
conducted load studies and a comparative study of software
environment in a month’s time and helped Emirates make
quick decision on the new architecture.
ProKnowledge
Management Planning for Hindustan Lever, India
As a part of their millennium initiative, HLL Mumbai developed a knowledge
base. This effort consisted of getting definitions of what constitutes knowledge
and developing dissemination engines for the same. As a part of Y2K business
contingency planning, HLL discovered that a lot of practices could be documented
and placed on their Intranet for meaningful retrieval.
We participated in design of new Intranet
for HLL and subsequently its development as well. As a part
of this project, we coordinated with HLL's consultants, McKinsey & Co.
and executed this project from Bangalore, while implementing
it in Mumbai concurrently.
Maintenance
of LUXICOM, EDELCOM, Paris
EDELCOM is a specialist in Power line carrier control. EDELCOM is an EEC award
winner for innovative designs. Their unique product LUXICOM is used for lighting
control of streetlights. We are maintaining LUXOCOM and undertake enhancements
at Surya.
Complete lamp history, defect history,
communication address definition, command logs and control
system for lighting control is maintained by Surya. In addition,
we have built a very unique geographic module where maps
are primary interface for users. Typically, a user may go
to a specific lamp on a street and control ON or OFF or DIM.
This highly specialized software is being supported by Surya
for EDELCOM installations throughout the world.
Chicago Logistik
Zenthrum Verden Gmbh, Germany
Chicago involved design of functional specification of a warehouse management
system for LZV Gmbh, Bremen, Germany. This involved interviewing CEO, warehouse
supervisors and workers to arrive at a requirement specification that was subsequently
converted to a functional specification.
LZV is a third party warehouse with one major client - Effem,
which is a leading pet food manufacturer. Their existing
system did not allow for shipping smaller volumes of mixed
SKUs. It assumed full pallets. Shipping mixed pallets was
a new business for LZV. Their challenge was to help LZV achieve
this in a small timeframe. RFTs and other warehouse specific
equipment like conveyors have been used in this warehouse.
Thus, design had to support both RFT based and regular screen
transactions.
We created front-end Non-RFT transactions using ORACLE FORMS
with ORACLE hosted on a Windows/NT server. We used transaction
server for RFT front-end and middleware for bourses.
Security
module for banner plus gadnet.com, United Kingdom
Banner Plus is banner exchange software. Members of this exchange earn credits
by displaying banners on their site. These credits are then used in displaying
their banner on other members' sites. Security module for banner plus prevents
someone running up a lot of credits simply by repeatedly pressing "Reload" button
on their browser. This system logs activity, banning a particular IP address
from entering banner plus system, displaying log file and logging errors.

Planning
Budgeting System, Leading Software Company
We built a Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting (PBF) system for a leading software company to be a part of their banking suite on .NET platform (c# and ASP).
We provided complete life cycle support from functional specifications to acceptance
test. We ensured all building components required were adequately researched
and development team finished engineering this product in record time.
PBF enables enterprises to plan their budgets,
track them and analyze budgets in real time. PBF enables
smart forecasting using forecasting methods. We are implementing
PBF on at two banks – one in
India and one in Africa.
